Manually managed development and production environments often have different configurations ⚙️. These differences accumulate over time due to ad-hoc fixes, updates, or changes 🔄. This leads to unpredictable behaviour, security vulnerabilities, and increased downtime ⛔. I solve these issues with dev teams by adopting Infrastructure-as-Code 📜. We use tools like Ansible and AWS CloudFormation to define the infrastructure and its configuration using code 💻. These code scripts are also version-controlled 📚. Finally, have you ever heard that cliché story, "It works on my computer"? Yes, this happens a lot within dev teams 💡. Systems have certain dependencies that they need to function 🔧. If these dependencies are not installed in the environment in which you want to run the system, it will not work as intended 🚫. Containerization involves encapsulating an application and its dependencies into a container, which can run consistently across different computing environments. As part of the dev team, I leverage tools like Docker to containerize systems 🛳️. Containerization is also useful for breaking down monolithic applications into smaller and more manageable microservices 🧩. This has a whole range of benefits 🌟.
