Job summary

The Principal Infrastructure Engineer applies expert technology infrastructure knowledge to research, recommend, design, and implement complex multi-vendor infrastructure solutions. This role involves analyzing business and technical requirements, identifying design issues, and providing solutions that meet organizational needs. The engineer will develop, design, and implement secure, resilient, scalable infrastructure solutions aligned with business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
  • 10 years of technical experience in enterprise server, storage, or cloud environments
  • At least two years in a senior or principal level role
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with enterprise compute systems, storage arrays, hyperconverged infrastructure, cloud platform as a service, and server virtualization
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Proficiency with network topologies, communication protocols, application delivery controllers, load balancers, and firewalls
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor infrastructure engineers and administrators

Responsibilities

  • Research, recommend, design, and implement complex multi-vendor infrastructure solutions
  • Analyze business and technical requirements
  • Identify broad design issues and provide solutions
  • Develop, design, and implement secure, resilient, scalable infrastructure solutions (servers, storage, network, cloud)
  • Develop strategic and tactical engineering roadmaps for technologies and services
  • Design, implement, and maintain server, storage, and application hosting infrastructure for optimal performance and availability
  • Apply expertise and problem-solving to consult on technology platforms in a strategic, resilient, secure, and cost-effective manner
  • Analyze, scope, and identify technical requirements for new and existing products
  • Determine optimum hosting configuration in hybrid (cloud, on-premises, SaaS) environments
  • Work with technical architects to obtain strategic designs and ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure
  • Prototype and validate emerging computing/storage/cloud technologies
  • Lead infrastructure teams in building, managing, supporting, and maintaining solutions
  • Ensure compliance with Sanford policy
  • Oversee or consult on mid-to-large, complex infrastructure projects
  • Foster and champion modern IT practices that embrace standardization, automation, and artificial intelligence
  • Mentor senior infrastructure team members to provide technical guidance and promote a culture of excellence
  • Build partnerships across the technology organization to align infrastructure design to business, security, resiliency, and architectural standards
  • Lead or consult on mid-to-large-scale infrastructure projects requiring deep technical expertise and leadership
  • Provide strong leadership, communication, and project management skills while managing multiple simultaneous priorities
  • Work independently with minimal oversight
